Without a shadow of doubt, there was one fixture this match day that stood out amongst the rest, that being the game at Anfield between Liverpool and Arsenal. This historic fixture that has produced some great moments over the years is always an eye catcher and one that the football fans around the world always look forward to with goals almost being guaranteed whenever the two sides play. In other news, the other team hopeful of winning the title, Manchester City, faced Bournemouth away while the other top four hopefuls Tottenham, Chelsea and United faced Newcastle, Norwich and Crystal Palace respectively.

The Headline fixture

There was a lot to get excited about in this fixture with the prospect of goals being a very high one, and this expectation certainly didn't disappoint. Eyes were on the Arsenal lineup especially as record signing and saga of the summer Nicolas Pepe made his first start for Arsenal, facing without doubt his biggest ever defensive test against the likes of Andrew Robertson and Virgil Van Dijk.

Liverpool started on top and continued to dominate possession for the majority of the half, however there were moments where it looked like Arsenal could go one or even two up with Aubameyang failing to find the net with a lob over Adrian who rushed unnecessarily out of his net and Nicolas Pepe also squandered a great chance one on one after leaving Robertson for dead, hitting his shot straight at the Liverpool keeper. These moments were hard to come by for Arsenal though as Liverpool's pressure finally paid off as a corner from Alexander-Arnold was headed in by the ever present aerial threat Joel Matip, leaving Arsenal to rue their missed chances.

The second half started and it was clear from the off that Liverpool meant business with two quick fire goals from Mohammed Salah, giving Arsenal worries that once again they could be on the end of another Anfield annihilation. However, with the introduction of Lucas Torreira and Liverpool's decision to sit back more than before, Arsenal avoided a heavy defeat with Torreira also adding his name to the scoreline.

The game finished 3-1 to Liverpool and while it seemed the same old story we've seen for years with Liverpool once again beating the Gunners convincingly at Anfield, there were certainly more positives to take this time round in comparison to previous meetings.

Unexpected Upsets

Tottenham and Manchester United have both had pretty decent starts to this season, with both gaining a respectable four points against tough oppositions that included the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea. Therefore, given their starts, you would have most likely expected to see them gain all three points against Newcastle and Crystal palace at home respectively. However, this is the Premier League and, to everyone's shock, both Spurs and United ended up losing with Newcastle grabbing a 1-0 win and Crystal Palace scoring a last minute goal to silence the Old Trafford crowd.

There's been a lot of talk surrounding Tottenham due to Pochettino's admittance that there is unrest in the Tottenham camp, and their performances this season have backed up his talk. The exclusion of normal regulars Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen came as a surprise and only added fuel to the fire about there being problems behind the scenes. The exclusion of these two certainly hit hard as due to Sanchez' poor positioning, striker Joelinton was able to sneak in behind and give Newcastle the lead, while at the other end, the Spurs attack clearly missed the creativity of the Danish midfielder.

From a Newcastle point of view, this was a massive boost after a very poor start to the season. Newcastle defended with organisation, determination and limited the space in between the lines superbly, meaning that Tottenham struggled to create many clear cut chances throughout the game, despite having a staggering 80% possession. Joelinton impressed with his excellent hold up play, while the team as a whole stood out with their excellent work rates, doing anything to prevent Tottenham from scoring.

In the game at Old Trafford, Crystal Palace showed that they still had the capability to upset the top six sides away from home, continuing off from their wins at Arsenal, City and Tottenham last season. Despite being dominated for the opening periods of the game, it only took one attack from Palace to open the scoring with a very composed finish from striker Jordan Ayew, slotting the ball past David De Gea. However when new boy Daniel James scored with only a few minutes remaining, it looked almost certain the game was heading for a draw. Although against all odds, Palace managed to break and after a Wan Bissaka tackle on former team mate Wilfred Zaha, the ball ricocheted to Van Aanholt who fired the ball past De Gea's near post, with many feeling that the United keeper should've done much better. Overall, these were two of the most eye catching results this weekend, with questions certainly being asked of the two teams, as we wait in anticipation to see how they respond to two very surprising losses.

A general overview

We've had a detailed look through the stand out results of the week, so lets take a step back and review the rest of the fixtures from match day three.

We start at Carrow Road where Norwich City are hosts to Chelsea in a game that many would argue ended in the expected result. Goals from Chelsea youth products Abraham and Mount damned Norwich to a 3-2 defeat, however, despite only winning one game so far this season, Norwich have impressed many with their fluid and attacking style of football and their game against the Blues showed little sign of this stopping.

The second Friday Night Football of the season saw Everton make the trip to Villa Park to face Aston Villa, a team that hadn't won for 20 Premier League games. However thanks to goals from new signings Wesley and El Ghazi, this run came to a much needed end as the stadium erupted into delirium when the latter squeezed a shot underneath the onrushing Pickford. It was also an Everton debut for deadline day signing Alex Iwobi who came within inches of drawing Everton level in the second half, hitting the post after cutting in on his left foot.

It was a good day for Jamie Vardy and Leicester with the former scoring against his boyhood rivals Sheffield United as the Foxes ran out 2-1 winners over the newly promoted side. After Sheffield United's record signing Oliver McBurnie levelled the scores at 1-1, Leicester academy graduate Harvey Barnes unleashed a rocket of a volley to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Graham Potter suffered his first defeat of the season as Southampton came out comfortable 2-0 winners at the Amex after a horror tackle from Brighton striker Andone left Brighton with ten men for the majority of the game. New signing Moussa Djenepo hit a stunning long range strike into the right side of the net before Nathan Redmond rounded it all off to give Southampton the win.

Watford's start to the season continued to worsen as West Ham were eventual 3-1 winners leaving Watford without a single point all season. A double from the ever impressing Sebastian Haller, including an acrobatic bicycle kick, propelled West Ham to victory while Watford had no answer once again this season to the opposition questions.

Another expected and quite frankly routine victory came for Manchester City as they travelled to the coast to dismantle Bournemouth 3-1. Goals from Aguero and Sterling cancelled out another stunning freekick from Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson to ensure they keep up with Liverpool who are now the only team to boast a perfect start to the season.

Our final result of the weekend featured some very late drama as Burnley almost run out surprise victors away to Wolves, however a last minute penalty from Raul Jimenez denied them a massive upset. Molineux has become a notoriously difficult place for teams to come to, with many top six sides struggling to win there last season, therefore a Burnley win would certainly have surprised a few.

Player of the week

While there were some close candidates, such as Tammy Abraham and Sergio Aguero, I've gone for Mohammed Salah of Liverpool. His quick fire double including an emphatic penalty sunk any last hopes the Gunners had of getting back into the game while also being threatening and direct throughout the game. For these reasons, Moh Salah is my player of match day three.

Moment of the week

For me, there's one clear standout moment for me and that was Tammy Abraham's first goal against Norwich. After all the horrible racist abuse he suffered from his own fans due to missing a penalty against Liverpool in the Super Cup, it was an emotional moment for the young striker when he struck within the opening moments of the game. He ran up and hugged Frank Lampard in his celebrations, later praising him for the faith he'd shown in him and how he had helped him get through a very difficult period.
