WHO AM I ?
Hello, my name is Sam, I'm 19, and I have a huge passion for Arsenal, football and sports in general.
Despite hating football when I was younger, my love for the game came with the start of the first game of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, between the hosts and North American qualifiers Mexico. The game was just over half way through as half time had passed and it was just my Dad watching it at the time. I came into the room and sat down with him to watch a bit as we had done so much work in class on the World Cup. Then I remember a long ball being played over to Tshbalalala, the South African striker, who was in on goal, took a few touches, and absolutely rifled it into the far top corner from the edge of the box. This was a special goal. Not only the first goal of one of the greatest ever World Cup tournaments, but the goal that made me fall in love with football.
So when did I decide to become a journalist? Around five years later when the question was first put to me, "What do you want to do in the future?", I was determined to find a job in football, or sports at the very least. I met a freelance sports journalist named Nigel Bidmead soon after to get an overview of what being a journalist involved. This was a moment that really helped me solidify my thoughts that I want to be a journalist.
From then on, I've looked to expand my understanding of journalism, whilst improving my quality of writing and communicating too. I've had experience, most notably with media giants Sky and BT, and I'm hoping to get onto an NCTJ Sports Journalism course with the Press Association, which I feel could really help me propel myself into the world of journalism.
