After watching my beloved Arsenal smash Liverpool rivals Everton 5-2, I could watch this game fully relaxed, but do a match report on it too of course. Here it is:
Alot of goals were expected in this game. With Tottenham's poor record at Wembley and Liverpool's poor defence, it looked set for an intriguing game of football. It was safe to say, it didn't disappoint...
With only 4 minutes on the clock, the first chance of the game was presented to Tottenham as a lovely dinked ball from Trippier found Kane who was through on goal... And of course, it ended up in the back of the Liverpool net as he cooly rounded the keeper and slotted home. 1 up in 4 minutes? This was definitely looking to be the game people had hoped for.
And soon after, it was two. After an excellent Hugo Lloris throw to Kane, who spun past a stupidly committing Lovren, dashed in on goal, played an excellent square ball to Son who tapped home a second. Superb from Spurs who are ripping Liverpool apart in the early stages of the game.
Incredibly from Tottenham, it could've easily been 3 in 15 minutes as an inch perfect ball over the top from Eriksen found an inrushing Son who absolutely thrashes the ball against the bar. Top, top performance so far from Tottenham and it's looking like it could be a cricket score at the moment. Liverpool need to wake up...
And they did, as to add to the drama, Liverpool pulled one back with their first decent attack of the game. Henderson picks out a delightful ball to a very pacey Salah who races past Vertonghen and left wing back for the day Serge Aurier, scuffs his shot and it dribbles in as it rebounds off he post. Game on and an excellent spectacle.
Around the half an hour mark, Spurs could've made it three as Son is played through by Alli, but his weak toe poke is saved by Mignolet. However a poor Lovren, who was subbed off only minutes later, almost rebounded it past his own keeper. Close again for Spurs, but definitely a half an hour to forget for Dejan Lovren.
Surprisingly, despite it still being a good contest, there was little to come by in terms of chances. However with the last kick of the half Spurs added a third as an Eriksen freekick was poorly headed away by Matip with Dele Alli rushing in to volley home the rebound expertly. 3-1 Spurs and now a serious uphill task for Liverpool.
With that volley came the halftime whistle and roars from the Tottenham faithful chanting Dele Alli's name. A very convincing start from Tottenham but huge credit to Liverpool who managed to come back into a game which looked like they would be anihalated in. Most teams would cave in, so some credit is due for the Liverpool team. Spurs however, are playing on a different level.
The second half has gotten underway and it's only taken another 10 minutes for Spurs to add a fourth as Simon Mignolet poorly palms away a corner straight to Vertonghen who's shot is excellently blocked by Firmino on the line only for a clinical Harry Kane to smash into an open goal from inside the 6 yard box. 4-1 now and it's surely game over.
Now there's been many moments of magic in this game but very few were expecting one from Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris as Coutinho does excellently to get away a powerful left footed strike, heading straight for the top corner, only for the Spurs keeper to pull off a phenomenal save as he's at full stretch to tip it onto the bar. Incredible from Lloris which preserves their 3 goal buffer.
And for the rest of the game, that three goal buffer remains as Spurs run out comfortable winners by four goals to one. Apart from some delightful showboating from Alli and mild pressure from Liverpool, it was a fairly uneventful end to the half with Tottenham standing very firm in defence. For Liverpool however, it's a game to forget as Tottenham were better in every department, also probably feeling lucky they didn't concede more.
MOTM: Harry Kane

I think it would've been criminal to choose anyone else for the Man of the Match award as the world's best striker ran riot once again against an awful Liverpool defence, so much so he caused Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to bring off Lovren after only half an hour, someone who'd clearly been scarred by the Englishman's performance.
