The first London Derby of the season

I've watched alot of entertaining games so far this season, and this one was definitely up there. The first London Derby of the season between Spurs and Chelsea, at Wembley too, had me off my sofa, screaming, shouting, cheering and going crazy when Marcos Alonso scored his second. Here's my take on the game, through a match report.

In a high intensity match full to the rafters with quality, it was Chelsea who ruined the Spurs party as they lost their first home Premier League game at Wembley against a very solid and defensive Chelsea team.

However Chelsea were very attacking to begin with, and were on top in the early stages, missing big chances to go ahead. The most notable from Chelsea new boy Alvaro Morata who, after a pinpoint Azpilicueta cross, headed wide after being left completely open by the normally secure Tottenham defence.

But Tottenham did start to come into the game, and while not creating anything clear cut yet, it made for a much more even game. Although when David Luiz, playing in midfield for the day, was fouled on the edge of the box, up stepped Marcos Alonso who produced a moment of magic to curl a freekick perfectly over the wall and into the top corner to put Chelsea in front.

However, Chelsea could've been 2-0 up going into the break as Moses was making a storming run down the right and if Willian had found him, he would've been through. But in came Mousa Dembele to make a crucial interception stopping the ball from the reaching Victor Moses, otherwise he would've surely gone on to make it two.

From then on, Tottenham were fully on top and as Chelsea began to learn as the game went on, you cannot allow Cristian Eriksen the opportunity to put a cross in from a freekick. In the 38th minute, Eriksen had the opportunity to do so, with me telling my dad it was almost a certain goal, and I was right. Eriksen whipped it in with perfection only for multiple Spurs, and Chelsea players to miss the ball. How it stayed out, I don't know.

A few minutes later, Spurs got another chance as Dele Alli does another one of his signature nutmegs on the inrushing Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta, finding Harry Kane who cuts inside on the edge of the box, only to absolutely smash it against the far post. Another let off for Chelsea and as the whistle goes for half time, Spurs are desperately unlucky to not be infront.

As the second half gets underway, Spurs are well on top, and Chelsea can barely get out as hopeful balls are punted towards striker Alvaro Morata who continued to fail in holding up the ball, albeit very difficult with the lack of support. However Chelsea started to get some breaks as the match went on, with Morata and Willian at the heart of them. Willian played Morata through who managed to, despite Alderweireld's pressure, get a deflected shot off, bouncing just past Lloris' post. Moments later in the 73rd minute Chelsea had another opportunity as Willian smashed a low driven shit against Lloris' near post from range. Another close call.

But Chelsea were to regret the missed chances as Eriksen stepped over a freekick after Alli was softly fouled by Bakayoko, and once again whipped in a superb ball, only for newly brought on substitute Michy Batshuayi to head into his own goal. One a piece.

But then, Chelsea came back in emphatic fashion as Pedro was put through, only to be stopped by a stunning Dembele challenge. But while Tottenham were celebrating, Chelsea won the ball back and Pedro played the ball through to Marcos Alonso who smashed it underneath Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris to make it 2-1 with only a few minutes to go causing pandemonium in the Chelsea away end. Massive questions however need to be asked over Lloris who chose to go with his hands instead of his feet, which would've surely keep the ball out.

Then came the full-time whistle which brought to an end an excellent, passionate game of football with the blue side of London coming out victorious. I'll be hoping in the future to watch more games just as entertaining as this one.

MOTM: Marcos Alonso

Let's be honest, there was only one man to get Man of the Match after scoring a brace and the winning goal in a huge London derby. Marcos Alonso was clinical scoring his, and Chelsea's, only two shots on target. But even without his two goals, Alonso was constantly solid throughout, making life very hard for the Tottenham right back, Kieran Trippier.
